For Students Entering 6th Grade
Review of 4th–5th Grade Geometry:
Classifying 2D Shapes: Identifying and categorizing triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons.
Measuring and Identifying Angles: Understanding and measuring acute, obtuse, and right angles.
Understanding Perimeter, Area, and Volume: Calculating perimeter and area of basic shapes, and introducing volume.
Introduction to Coordinate Planes: Plotting points and understanding the x- and y-axes.
Recognizing Lines of Symmetry: Identifying lines of symmetry in shapes and objects.
For Students Entering 7th Grade
Review of 5th–6th Grade Geometry Concepts:
Area of Triangles, Parallelograms, and Composite Figures: Calculating area for various 2D shapes and composite figures.
Angle Relationships: Understanding complementary, supplementary, and vertical angles.
Surface Area and Volume of 3D Shapes: Finding the surface area and volume of prisms and pyramids.
Understanding Basic Transformations: Learning flips, slides, and turns in the plane.
Circle Terms: Understanding the relationship between radius, diameter, and circumference.
For Students Entering 8th Grade
Review of 6th–7th Grade Geometry Foundations:
Pythagorean Theorem: Applying the Pythagorean Theorem to right triangles.
Properties of Triangles and Quadrilaterals: Identifying and working with various types of triangles and quadrilaterals.
Volume and Surface Area of Cones, Spheres, and Cylinders: Calculating volume and surface area of more complex 3D shapes.
Dilations and Similarity in the Coordinate Plane: Understanding and applying dilations and similarity transformations.
Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal: Identifying angles formed when parallel lines are cut by a transversal.
For Students Entering 9th Grade (Geometry Prep)
Review of 7th–8th Grade Geometry Readiness:
Angle Relationships and Proofs: Deepening understanding of angle relationships and using proof techniques.
Triangle Congruence (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS): Exploring the conditions under which triangles are congruent.
Similarity and Transformations: Analyzing similar figures and understanding geometric transformations.
Coordinate Geometry: Using distance and midpoint formulas in the coordinate plane.
Trigonometry Basics (Sine, Cosine, Tangent): Introduction to trigonometric ratios and their applications.
